Submarine USS Cavalla and Destroyer Escort USS Stewart will be activated for the 2013 event by members and guests of the Brazos Valley ARC. Operating from the new American Undersea Warfare Center, located in Seawolf Park, Galveston Texas. The group also plans to launch a balloon to carrying APRS Trackers. In addition to HF operations, KK5W will operate during available satellite passes. On Saturday and Sunday morning KK5W will host a 2 meter net on the WA5CYI repeater 146.940(-) PL 167.9 Hz. Hams in the Houston-Galveston area will be able to make contact via the net with stations representing the USS Texas (NA5DV), Tall Ship Elissa(N5E), SS Grandcamp and SS High Flyer Memorial (AC0TX) as well as the Cavalla and Stewart.
