vary according to the source, there is supposed to be a DXpedition
to this rare one after typhoon season ends, sometime this fall.

PALMYRA/JARVIS ISLAND, KH5, AND KINGMAN REEF, KH5K. The Northern
Portugal DX Group reports rumblings from Hawaii of a possible
DXpedition being in the works for Palmyra or Jarvis Island, KH5, and
Kingman Reef, KH5K. Early planning stages involve a very difficult
obstacle in obtaining landing permission for Kingman Reef.

monitor his beacon. Contact him at home at 353 21 632365, work at
353 21 504744, or for attempting a two way QSO when the band is open
at 353 1 2032371, which is a pager number.

and 3, from the Newfoundlands Coast Group, NA-198, July 9 and 10,
and La Madeleine Island, NA-038, July 20 and 21.

GOOD THINGS IN A SMALL PACKAGE. A recent DXpedition provided
important field, or perhaps more appropriately stated, island
testing of a new amplifier design. The brainchild of two amateur
radio operators, the amplifier uses two MRF154 power MOSFETs and
requires only 12 watts drive for 1KW output. A standard airline
cabin case, which is carry-on luggage size, housed the whopping 16
pounds of equipment comprised of an FT-900 transceiver, the custom
amp and advanced switching power supply.

THIS WEEKEND ON THE RADIO. Take your pick from the All Asian DX
Contest on CW, the SMIRK and West Virginia QSO Parties. Rules for
these on the air events appear in June QST on page 99.
