The activation is the HWN's first for the current hurricane season. HWN members share storm information with forecasters via WX4NHC at the National Hurricane Center. Claudette is forecast to become a Category 1 hurricane as it approaches landfall near Cozumel, Mexico. At 1500z, the government of Mexico issued a hurricane warning for the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, from Chetumal to Cabo Catoche. A tropical storm warning is in effect along the northern and western coasts of the Yucatan Peninsula. The government of Belize has issued a tropical storm warning from Belize City northward to the Belize-Mexico border. The storm is moving to the west-northwest at 16 MPH with maximum sustained winds of nearly 70 MPH. This motion could bring the center of Claudette near or over the northeastern Yucatan Peninsula late July 10 or early July 11. NNNN /EX
