Every Memorial Day weekend the small rural town of Bishop CA, nestled on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, comes alive with the annual celebration of Mule Days. It is an event the likes of which are held nowhere else in the world. Mule Days is part mule show, part test of rodeo skills, and part Wild West show. Over the five days of the event, there are 14 shows featuring over 700 mules with their trainers, riders and packers. In excess of 30,000 fans converge on the Tri-County Fairgrounds to watch the events and visit the exhibitors. It boasts the longest running non-motorized parade in the country. It is one of the most, if not the most significant annual activity for Bishop and the Owens Valley, Amateur radio operators are active in many aspects of the local community and this special event station offers a unique opportunity to share this special activity with the rest of the world.
