Nice to see the League has finally established a forum area on the site. I wish there was a general discussion area though. 73's WA3ZRM |

Just an afterthought... it would also be nice to have forum areas for ARRL Affiliated Clubs, VE's and Registered Instructors. |

Thanks for joining in. We are planning more forums, but want to approach this a bit slowly, as this is new for the HQ staff. The specific purpose of this 'Welcome" forum isn't well defined, so it will probably end up serving as a catch-all to discuss ARRL in general. 73, Ed Hare, W1RFI ARRL Lab Technology forums moderator |

I think it is GREAT that the ARRL finally decided to have its own forum! Looks like a good start, and with rules that are more than fair. Keep up the good work. :-) How to I add a signature? I see it's mentioned, but I could find no place to add one. It would also be nice to be able to subscribe to a particular thread. The way qrz.com has subscriptions are about perfect, and I think it would be a great model for this site. 73, Mike www.w0btu.com |

Thanks for the encouragment. I'm a forums denizen from way back, but a lot of HQ staff are new to this, and we are new to administering forums. With work, we can keep this a positive, productive place, without a heavy hand in moderation, because the free expression of ideas and beliefs is important. The rules will be fine tuned, but moving towards reading a bit less restrictive, or clarifying what should be obvious, but needs to be said anyway. As an example, the rules about not promoting other sites could be read to mean not to even mention them. The rule is intended to avoid the weekly announcments to join the Whoop and Holler Amateur Radio Society, which is great to see once, for those that are interested, but if that appears again and again, is is unwelcome spam to most. So, the language needs to be changed a bit. In the meantime, feel quite free to discuss other sites and to say how much you like or dislike them, and if you find a really cool site that other hams may enjoy, start a discussion about it the appropriate forum. As I said in another thread, those that are enthusiastic about a site can usually find a way to work it in naturally to a discussion, and references to other sites as part of a discussion or answer to a question are welcome. We are, btw, adding new forums, and just last night, I added one on Vintage gear restoration and operation. (One of the ARRL Lab guys is passionate about the subject.)
I don't think that there is a way to store a signature file on the system. Some folks cut and paste their sig block, or, on this forum, mine is pretty short, so I just type it. The premise here is that members areposting personally, not on behalf of any organization, unless clearly identified as such.
Katie Glass, our web-content manager and overall moderator for these forums is looking into that. Right now, I don't know what the full capabilities of the system are. (I don't even know what software we bought to do this.) Hang tight on the answer, as a number of people have asked. 73, Ed Hare, W1RFI ARRL Lab Technical forums moderator |

Great idea to have forums and I too agree with WA3ZRM about having a forum for affiliated clubs. Not so much for clubs to advertise their meetings or events, but rather to share information on on recruitment, or any activity that keeps members and interested and the club growing. I think there are many clubs who have very good ideas that others may benefit from. Looking forward to seeing that forum established soon! 73, Efrem Acosta W2CZ |

Thanks, Ed. I'm going to continue this in General Comments, as that appears to be the proper place to add suggestions like this. 73, Mike www.w0btu.com |
