Do's and Don’ts of PR

Do we really need to have a person manage our PR functions? Yes! Here’s a primer on basic PR do’s and don’ts from RealBusinessTalk.com

From the Home Office

As of December 1, another hurricane season is officially over. I saw photos of the celebrations of this season-ender down in the Florida Keys…I’m sure they are happy they were spared.

And now the holidays will usher in colder weather for many of us. That means the possibility of winter storms, weather nets, power outages, all those types of events.

Aside from being available for our families and enjoying the spirit of the holidays, make sure you have time to take a breath yourself and enjoy ham radio simply for the sake of enjoying it. There are plenty of things going on that will allow you to have fun and develop on-air skills needed in emergencies.

Skywarn Recognition Day is December 5. WX4NHC, WX1BOX, and many other NOAA sites will be on this year. In four weeks, we’ll begin the ARRL National Parks on the Air event. And in the spirit of giving, groups are assisting with civic events galore, like this one in Florida and this one for Oklahoma veterans. There are a lot of great things going on in radio right now.

We all know the New Year is time to consider new traditions, new habits. I encourage you all to take on one new thing in PR this year. Commit to learning how to edit video with your phone, reach out to new civic leaders in your community; set up a Facebook or Twitter account for your club. The list is endless.

But most of all, just take some time to be grateful for what you have and how you provide outreach and service when needed.

Thanks for all you do.
