Beginning at approximately 2100 UTC on Sunday, August 20, 2017, I will be hosting a special event, along with Marie, KD9CAE, celebrating Historic Route 66, primarily in Illinois, the Land of Lincoln, and focusing on historic sites associated with Abraham Lincoln, as well as some other notable sites along “The Mother Road.” On Monday, August 21, 2017, we will also be celebrating the Total Solar Eclipse, operating from a location in Missouri which will enjoy approximately 2 minutes of totality during the eclipse. The planned location is the Route 66 State Park near Eureka, MO. We plan on beginning operation at approximately 1400 UTC, continuing through the eclipse which will be approximately 18:30 UTC, and remaining for a few hours thereafter. On Tuesday, August 22d we will begin an eastward trip along Historic Route 66, staying in the Springfield, IL area through August 23rd. Planned operating locations include The Abraham Lincoln Museum and Library, the Lincoln Tomb, The Lincoln Home, Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site, and the Lincoln Heritage Museum in Lincoln, IL. On Thursday, August 24th, we will head back to the home QTH in Chicago, along Historic Route 66. We will be operating mobile. We look forward to making contacts with as many amateur radio operators as possible over the course of the five days.
