A very interesting few single-op (DX Cluster-assisted) sessions on the Saturday for 94 Qs. Surprised how long we had good Es to Eu - until well after dark. Also surprised how well my fixed wire Vee-beam, pointing East, performed. Read More

    From Washington State(WA), USA:

I expected this to be a brutish contest but really it was fun.
Friday night, the band was actually open to a bunch of places but I think people gave up too early.

Saturday, conditions were good until prop snapped dead!

  • n2wn antennas the Thursday before ARRL 160

    12/11/2006 | N2WN

Well Friday started off much worse than the Friday before CQ WW DX CW. I really feel for the folks in the mid West. We had gale force winds. Lost my 83'vertical around 7:30 AM, snapped the puppy clear in half, and it was working so nicely... What to do... Read More

  • FT897, same old station!

Poor conditions here in Georgia. Ran my FT897 barefoot into an Antron 99. 22 q's, lowest score for me ever. But it was fun, and that is the main thing! See everyone next year. Read More

  • An apparent happy camper, (K1WHS) sitting at the rig after the ten meter bash! TX is a Ten Tec OMNI V, with a homebrew 1000 watt amplifier. I had the soldering iron and two rolls of solder handy. I must have been expecting some big trouble, but everything worked fine. The home brew 5 element yagi sits at 80 ft. It was aimed due South most of the time.

I have had my ham license for a long time, but have never been on any HF bands to speak of. (My DXCC on 40 meters is stuck at 18 countries) All of my experience is with VHF and UHF DX. So I decided to try the 10 Meter Contest, and actually spent about ... Read More

Nice band opening just prior to contest beginning - worked MN, KS, and MO while mobile in San Antonio, TX, with 25w; the MO stations were running 15w! During the contest, I continued my "piercing" of the Midwest, working many others. Never seemed to ... Read More
