2017 ARRL Straight Key Night
What a great night and day. For the first time I used a Heathkit HW-16 for the entire event, resisting the urge to use a modern rig when cdx were crowded. This HW-16 was built and modified by my mentor W5NYT, and features a 2nd IF, 5 bands, linear keying, and other improvements. The key was a 1958 Vibroplex Champion slowed down a bit with a Vari-eze and a Viz Vertical.
I heard many good fists, but the last QSO with AA4TB, Tommy, was very special. He was not only the best fist I heard, but he was using an HW-9 so this was an all Heathkit QSO. That was as common as an all-Elecraft QSO today once, but now it's very special. Thanks, Tommy
