2015 ARRL Field Day
The Lenoir Amateur Radio Club and Caldwell ARES worked Field Day 2015 from Redwood Park in Hudson NC. We participated as 4A NC with a GOTA station. We were visited by the Western Branch ASEC for NC, Paul Robinette-KD4OZI on Saturday morning. We appreciate Paul coming by and visiting with us. We also had a visit by Dr. Jim Boehner-N2ZZ, the Roanoke Division Director. We appreciated Jim coming by and checking us out. Both Paul and Jim traveled many miles. It is great that our officers take time to meet with "hams" around the country during Field Day.
The final score hasn't been tallied yet, but I believe we beat last year' QSO rate. The GOTA station did better also this year.
The weather caused a few problems, knocking over my telescoping mast in the process. But after that the weather turned cooler making for a nicer tear-down situation better than last year. We met all our goals for bonus points this year, including 500 more for the education, served agency appearance, elected official appearance, sending an ARRL message, and using an alternate power source.
Caldwell County CERT provided a 12X16 air conditioned shelter to work out of. And Caldwell County Emergency Management provided us with a 20kw generator and light tower.
The local newspaper came by to do interviews also, and she took plenty of pictures.
We used a drone with a GO PRO camera to take aerial photos and videos too.
Propagation wasn't too bad either. And we took advantage of the 6 meter activity too.
Field Day was also the first event we had an opportunity to use our communication and antenna trailers. Both trailers were a welcome addition to our operating capabilities.
We are looking forward to next year, especially some of the new hams! Talk of upgrades again.
