2012 ARRL September VHF Contest

09/11/2012 | W1AUV/R

It was a slow start to the contest this year. I tried to operate from Mt Equinox in VT (FN33kd). The mountain was closed due to a dedication ceremony on top of the mountain. Then they closed the mountain down due to threatening weather. So I went to the Mt Greylock Visitor's Center in (FN32jn) and operated until the bad weather came through. It was quite a show really. By dark I was wet and cold and went home to recharge.

Sunday I was on Mohawk Mountain early (FN31it) and had much better luck…until the adapter on the back of my 222 broke off. Fixed that but may have damaged the output. My 2304 doesn't work well either. But I did make my first 3 GHz QSO! So that was bright spot in the day. I left by 2:30 local time and headed to the Town of Washington (FN32ki) and worked until it was dark. I packed up before the bears could get me.

As always, I had fun! Thanks to everyone who stuck with me and sorry to all those I lost.
