2011 ARRL Field Day
The "Saltyhams" from the Narragansett Bay Amateur Radio Club (NBARC) were out on the water again for Field Day 2011. Steve KA1RCI and Brad KA1SVW set sail from the historic Edgewood Yacht Club on Friday June 24th and operated as NB1RI / MM 1C RI from the sailing vessel Bellerophon a 46' ketch, anchored in Potter Cove off Prudence Island. As usual we had several visitors at our floating field day site, Rick KD1WE managed to paddle out in his sea kayak for his annual field day visit on Saturday. Rick had no problem finding us out on Narragansett Bay to check out the NB1RI operations as Brad's boat was proudly flying the ARRL Battle Flag as well as C Q and N B 1 R I signal flags. Also, as in years past the RI National Guard Air Show was held the same weekend, from our floating field day location on the north end of Prudence Island we were able to watch the high speed events in the sky while working contacts on 10, 15, 20 and 40 meters. Operating two shifts each day for approximately 14 hours during the event we worked more than 150 contacts in 30 states, Washington DC, most of the Canadian Provinces, and several DX stations. This year’s NBARC crew; Steve KA1RCI and Brad KA1SVW. --
