K5ID
The Hot Springs Village (Arkansas) Amateur Radio Club celebrated 2006 Field Day in style. They operated from a beautiful RV supplied by AC5UG. We operated in the parking lot of the Paul Bewie Boys & Girls Club. Using Ken's call, K5ID, we operated one HF station for 24 hours. We had 528 QSOs. 37% were on 40 meters and 46% were on 20 meters. A little more than half of all of our QSOs were on CW. Power was supplied by the RV's diesel generator. Our antenna was a Carolina Windom strung between two light poles. We had 24 folks involved in the event 11 of which participated as operators or loggers. We used WriteLog as the logging program, an old Compaq laptop and a Kenwood TS-850 supplied by Jim, KJ6SB. All of these worked flawlessly. Highlights of the event were seeing folks operate HF or a Field day for the first time, the great food supplied and cooked by members of the group, the visit by State Representative Bill Sample and the wonderful operating facilities provided by the RV. The event had been mentioned in an article on ham radio activities in the village, featuring Bill, WA5HSV, in the June 7th issue of the Hot Springs Village Voice. Hot Springs Village is the nation's largest gated community and the HSV ARC has approximately 40 members who are active in maintaining 2 repeaters and participating in VEC examinations and other public service activies. -- N7FF
