2006 ARRL Field Day

07/02/2006 | W9ZL This years field day was one for the books for the Fox Cities Amateur Radio Club. We operated a 3 Alpha station located behind the Town of Neenah Fire Department in Neenah, Wisconsin.

We went silent this year, rather than using the normal generators we had a donation of 2 batteries to power the stations during field day. One weighing in at 2100 pounds and the other 1600 pounds. We also instead of erecting a tower like we had in past years had a donation of a boom lift to lift the main antennas some 100 in the air. Also we had a donation of two construction trailers to hold the operating stations in.

The bands this year were somewhat open as compared to the last few years. The CW station had over 700 contacts with a crew of 9 CW operators on its own. The phone with its antennas some 100 in the air had a great time as well. The digital station was a new mix for the FCARC field day and defiantly held it own.

The best thing about the FCARC that makes field day so much fun is the club comes together and everyone pitches in. The FCARC is in field day not to win but to just have fun and show the public what we can do. Its truly a social event. Hope to see everyone back on the band next year.
