2006 ARRL Field Day

06/29/2006 | K2FA The Sporadic Ham Radio Club, www.k2fa.org, participated in the 2006 Field Day in class 2B2 Battery. Our 2 man team consisted of Mike, KA2KQP, and Pete, KF2U. This was our first time running QRP for Field Day. Our location in the southern tier of New York state had an elevation of around 2100' above sea level. With plenty of tall trees around, we hung a 160 Meter Inverted L, an 80 Meter Dipole, a 40 Meter Dipole, and a 40 Meter Delta Loop. For 20 through 10 Meters, we used a Butternut HF-4B Butterfly Beam up 36'. Besides a couple of naps, food breaks, and uncomfortable chair breaks, we operated nearly the entire time. Our efforts resulted in 583 QSOs. We learned a lot to make next year better. Such as a dolly for the unbelievably heavy batteries, comfortable chairs, and a wrist rocket for easier antenna deployment. A special thanks to Bruce B for the use of his cabin. -- KF2U
