I headed out Friday evening to get camp setup for the weekend. Upon leaving town, I noticed smoke in the foothills, gave a call on .52 and David N0KM came back and said the Red Cross may need some communication. Hey, this is what field day is all about, so I headed that way. They ended up not needing me, so off I went to another mountain away from the fire. Set up that evening, made some tests and had a qso with a ham in France. Saturday morning I was checking my messages on the Cell phone and realized I had a family emergency. So, I packed up and headed home. I then went back up on Sunday and operated until the close of Field day-fun fun! The vehicle I was using is an Austrian built Pinzgauer. I set up in the back with an Icom 706 original, Yeasu 817. I originally hooked up to a dipole and tuner, then moved to a Hustler mobile with resonators which seemed to work better. I had a great view of the San Luis Valley. 73's and looking forward to next year. -- N0BHT
