2006 ARRL Field Day

06/27/2006 | K6PDQ Working Field Day 2006 with my friend Steve - K6SGH was, as always, an adventure. We operated high in the coast range in scenic Santa Barbara County (see Steve's Soapbox entry elsewhere). His station was in his VW camper van and mine was in my 5th wheel travel trailer. I ran the IC-746 Pro and laptop computer off batteries and solar panels
at all times, with available power never going below 12.6 volts, long into the night. And, needless to say, our bands were far from dead!

Antenna was the Hustler 5-BTV multiband vertical, mounted at the roof line of the trailer, where it performed admirably on 15, 20, 40 and 75 meters. No modifications to this ant were needed. This was my first experience with computer logging: a little tough at the outset, but now I'm a believer! Am looking forward to next year's event. -- K6PDQ
