2006 ARRL Field Day

06/26/2006 | W9MAP Each year, M.O.V.E. (Mobile Ohm Volunteer Examiners), operates Field Day from a different state park. This year we chose Moraine View near Le Roy, in Central Illinois.

Typically we operate phone, but this year we added PSK31 and we loved it! Mary (W9MAP) is hard-of-hearing, and while we appreciate the skill involved in operating CW, PSK31 is an excellent mode for this handicap.

Station operators include: N9OQU on an ICOM-7000 with a Buddy Pole antenna, and W9MAP and N9OQT on an Yaesu FT-847 with an Outbacker antenna. Newly licensed KC9JER (Paul) visited the station to observe a Field Day set-up.

We enjoyed camping along Lake Dawson, the weather was warm and sunny - but the heat got intense when our operating tent was in direct sunlight for six hours with no shade.

We had a few technical glitches as well. The lessons learned at this Field Day were to bring and extra G5RV, extra power supply, and to scout out the best shaded spots earlier.

We're looking forward to next year ... and thanks to all whom we made contact with this year! Enjoy the pictures!
