2006 ARRL June VHF Contest

06/15/2006 | N4DXY/R Wow, a quick but ardious 980 mile round trip, starting at 1PM in EM64, in Alabama, North to Nashville, NW to Evansville, Indiana, East to Louisville, Kentucky, on to Lexington, Kentucky, rhrough a 70 mile Severe Thunderstorm. We finally arrived at Midnight and spent the night. Sunday was bright and sunny, but propagation did not rear its head until we were about 70 miles North of Knoxville, Tennessee. We pulled off at a high spot and made several 2 Meter, 432, and 6 Meter contacts. Onward to Knoxville, Chatanooga, and Lookout Mountain. (Where the photo was taken). Propagation was poor, but we were able to work W4OZK (EM-64) Ft. Payne, Alabama on 1296 and later K4XR (EM-64), Hartselle, Alabama on 1296.
We had a great time, and enjoyed every minute of it. We were two tired hams as we arrived back in North Alabama at contests end. My thanks to N4ION, (Neil Taylor) EM-62 my driver and navigator. 42K points for our first rover attempt is not too bad, We were able to activate 10 Grids on our Journey, look for us in the July CQ contest, as we travel South to Gulf Shores, Alabama and East into Florida.

See ya on the bands.

73, Ed Weatherford KS4B -- KS4B
