Since I had just purchased a new HF/6M transceiver, I had planned before the contest to work only 6 as a way to exercise and get familiar with the new unit. Turned out to be a great choice. Six was open so much I never missed operating on the other bands.
Even though I only answered calls this time, no CQs, I managed to work the most grids since the 1987 contest.
I get a lot of local noise when the antenna is pointing to the northwest quadrant. I really appreciated the DSP noise reduction of the new rig. It made possible the double hop contacts to the Northwest US and Canada.
Wonder how many current VHFers remember the antenna I am using. It is the Finco 6and2 beam. It is 4 elements on a 10 foot boom at about 35 feet. It has been in use for over 25 years at two QTHs.
