2006 ARRL June VHF Contest

06/13/2006 | KQ6EE KQ6EE was at the top of San Gabriel Peak (6161') above Pasadena, CA operating QRP. The reason why I chose San Gabriel Peak because it is the closest and easiest mountain to climb. It takes less than an hour drive from my home QTH. I operated from 6m to 1.2Ghz. Thank for Yaesu: that FT-817 ( backpack HAM ) would allow us play with ssb; otherwise we stuck with FM during the contest. I packed everything in my backpack and headed to the mountain on Sunday only from 8am to about 3pm. The radios are FT-817, ICOM-T81A and Alinco 220 HT. Antennas are dual band beam, 2m 5/8 magmount, and couple telescopic antennas; that's it. The weather was nice at the mountain: no cloud and clear sky. I only worked on the local: may be couple contacts from San Diego, CA (>100 mile) with 5 watts other less. My score is better than last time. If I joined the contest on Saturday, my score might be higher. But I could not.Try next time; may be in the Field Day. I still don't have a digital camera yet; I cannot share my exciting time at the top of the mounatin with everybody 73 -- KQ6EE
