2006 ARRL June VHF Contest

06/13/2006 | KL1PL Worked from the hillside above Anchorage on Saturday, very windy!
Worked all 5 bands I have (6m/2m/1.25/70cm/33cm) as a rover. Items of note, fewer operators than January. Managed to make 40 contacts (down from 55 in Jan). Worked several grids. Made a 902 contact FM at 81 miles distance with KL7UW. Also had a 2m contact FM to KL1UK who was out at his cabin about 75 miles to the west of Anchorage.
There was some 6m prop seen although I missed it. Contacts from Anchorage to Kotzebue (546 miles) were managed.
Sunday found me out to the east of town on the Seward Hiway, about half way out Turnagain Arm. Put me into BP50 from BP51 and made several contacts there. Witnessed an historic 10ghz shot between KL7FZ and KL7UW as they made contact via CW across the Arm (5 miles).
Both were running less than 2watts. That was at least a first for Alaska.
Looking forward to Sept! -- KL1PL
