2006 ARRL June VHF Contest

06/13/2006 | WN7T I had a lot of fun for my first VHF contest. I got a late start because the the road to my first choice QTH on Mt. Rainer was still closed from snow (Sunrise Point @ 6400 feet elevation). The view from my second choice QTH, Paradise @ 4380 feet elevation inside Mt. Rainer National Park, was spectacular! Despite fog, rain and cold it was a blast.

Equipment included a Par Electronics OA-50 omni, a very old 3-element yagi for 2 meters, and a IC-7000 mounted on and in my Toyota Tacoma truck. I really wished I had had a gain antenna available for 6 meters! Maybe next year. I also missed not having a 70 cm antenna along for the contest.

Saturday afternoon on 6 meters was hot into the east coast for a short period. Sunday had some nice 6, 5 and 0 openings on 6 meters.

Overall, this was a great learning experience for me!
