W6GMT/R
The W6GMT/R started the contest in CM97 from an overview off Interstate 5 in a lite rain. We traveled 675 miles activated 9 Grids on both sides of the Tehachapi Mountians and ended at the home QTH on DM05 with 231 contacts. I ran alone using my FT-847 with KU4AB SQ line Loops on 6,2 and 432. When I stopped I added a small 4EL beam on 2 and a 5EL beam on 432. Usual CA weather for January cool and rain in the central valley warm and windy in the Mojave Desert. The wind was so bad in DM14 and DM04 that I could not erect the beams (35+).
There did not seem to be as many constants as last year Foot ball?? or the North American QSO party not sure. This is the first year that I did not meet a fellow rover at the 4 corners in Kettleman City. June from MN as aways great fun. 73 -- W6GMT
