2006 ARRL RTTY Roundup

01/23/2006 | W8JWN I tried SO2R, low power for the first time. Well, that experiment lasted only one hour! I wasted the first hour trying to decode with the second radio, my old TS-830S, on 15 meters. I must have called some guys 10-20 times and never made a contact! Meanwhile, on my FT1000MP on 20 meters, I managed to work only five stations. I was using the 500 MHz filter and had the IF Shift messed up! This was not the start I anticipated. So, I stayed on the MP the entire contest. I worked 23 hours and had some good runs on 40 meters Sunday afternoon. I should have spent more time on 80 meters Saturday night but the QRN and some line noise at this QTH drove me off.

N1MM Logger worked flawlessly. Hopefully, in the future, I can get this SO2R business down and improve my score. I ordered band pass filters before the contest and they still haven't arrived! Of course, they weren't needed this time. -- W8JWN
