2006 ARRL Straight Key Night

01/08/2006 | K2JX I decided to use my Novice station circa 1973 for SKN this year.
E.F. Johnson Viking Adventurer, BC-348Q rcvr, J-38 key, transmitter crystal controlled. 75' inverted end fed Marconi antenna tuned by an E.F. Johnson "Match Box". After a few visits from Murphy early on, I finally got down to business and started working others. I was amazed at the number of stations running thier Novice stations. All had the same commment, SKN brings back the fun we all had as Novices. Each year on SKN that I use my vintage gear, I am truly amazed at how well it performs given it's age. Listening on a 62 year old rcvr in a crowded band one hears many signals in it's bandpass unlike the tight DSP'ed, software defined machines of today. In a way, thats the magic ! I enjoyed this years SKN and those whom I met on the air greatly. cu nxt SKN, 73, de Jack -- K2JX
