2006 ARRL Straight Key Night

01/04/2006 | W8YRB SKN 2006 was alot of fun. After participating in SKN in previous years, I decided to do something different. While talking with my wife about SKN and tring to explain to her why I was going to be staying up most of the night on the radio I asked her if she had any unique ideas for a code key I could use. I wanted to use something totally off the wall, I was hoping she would say I could use a couple of spoons, but that was out of the question. Giving up on the whole thing she makes the remark, whatever you use I'm sure you'll get your 2 cents in somehow. Bingo, the light came on, why not 2 pennies. The hardest part of using the two pennies was getting those tiny wires to solder to the side of the penny. I cut the cord of a pair of old computer headsets I don't use anymore (had the perfect plug) and stripped it back, WOW is that wire small... I had a ball, many of laughs, and alot of fun talking about the old days and the key I was using. Met up with old freinds (WA9PWP-Paul) and others I've worked over the years. I would have to say the best and most interesting QSO was with two gentlemen ND8J-Tom and W8IVJ-Gary we ragchewed in a round table for 2 hours on SKN. What a fantastic QSO. Thanks for memories guys, and all those I worked. Thanks to my wife for the inspiration to do something different. 73 - Rob -- W8YRB
