2005 ARRL November Sweepstakes (CW)

11/09/2005 | W8EDU The tradition continues at W8EDU.

The Case Amateur Radio Club station, W8EDU, at Case Western Reserve University once again hosted a M/S effort in ARRL SS CW. The tradition began in the early 1980s, and is still going strong. The operators are a bit older and grayer, but one never gets tired of SS (until Sunday afternoon, that is).

40 m was the dominant band throughout the contest, yielding more QSOs and sections than all other bands combined. This was essentially normal for SS from the Black Hole of 8-Land.

We got off to a slow start, and never really found the momentum this year. Although there were no absolutely outstanding hours, there were no completely lost hours either. Steady progress was the theme this year. All bands were very noisy, especially Saturday night. Hats off to all of the operators that were patient and provided fills.

This year, NNY was the last section worked for our sweep, at 2226Z, preceded by VY1JA at 1643Z and VO1HP at 1415Z.

A special thanks to Bob Leskovec, K8DTS, Alan McIlwain, KI8JV/VE4AKM, Sam Wolfe, NV8L, and all of the other Case Amateur Radio Club members that keep the station in such great order. -- W8WTS
