09/28/2005 | WB2AMU Two weeks prior to the VHF contest, the VHF section of my FT-100 died. So I went into the contest, using my vintage FT-690 and FT-290 plus an HT for 220 and 432 MHz for my single operator portable effort. Band conditions were very good for tropo, especially on Sunday morning where we worked a number of grids in Western Pennsylvania, including the elusive FN01 on Two Meters. The Sporadic-E opening on Sunday was a treat but pileups were too great on many of the signals for my QRP setup. -- WB2AMU
