2005 ARRL September VHF Contest

09/13/2005 | K8FH It was a gorgeous weekend to go camping and combining camping and ham radio made it even better. Gerry (KC8QAE) and I have been teaming up for portable VHF contests for a couple years now and enjoy trying different sites. This time we set up on a hill top at Punderson State Park in Geauga County, Ohio. The weather was great, propagation not so great. We operated the bottom four bands, 222 was a new addition for us this time out. We had a lot of curious visitors from around the campground and took the opportunity to promote our hobby. Operating the four bands simultaneously got a little exciting at times for just the two of us. Thanks to all who followed us between the bands and to those who had the patience to dig us out of the noise (long live CW). We tore down Sunday evening just before dark to head home and understand we missed an opening to the South on Six, maybe next year -- K8FH
