07/25/2005 | AG4HG Scenic City Amateur Radio Society, in its second year of organization, participated in Field Day 2005. This year we operated 3a - QRP and 100% solar powered. We combined a 2500 watt solar array with storage batteries to power the three hf rigs, the 2m/6m station, as well as all lighting, fans, computers and accessories. Our site on Signal Mountain, just west of Chattanooga, TN has rows of trees on each side of the field . . . a perfect situation for our wire antennas.

To our knowledge, this is the first time that a Chattanooga area Field Day effort has operated on 100% natural power. Planning is already underway for Field Day 2006.
