2005 ARRL Field Day

07/19/2005 | W4NJA The Paducah Amateur Radio Association (PARA) held its annual Field Day activities at Keiler Park in the heart of the city using the club's call, W4NJA. Keiler Park has been the location for the last five years due to its central location, big trees for stringing antennas and providing lots of shade. This year's weather was hot with the temperature in the low 90s and no surprize thunderstorms!

We decided to go simple again this year and put up three G5RV antennas. W5FB provided a bow and arrow launching device that got our antennas about 6o feet into the top of the trees on the first or second try. Even with these "compromise" antennas, we were able to work just about everyone the we heard. We seemed to have a pileup everytime we got on 40M.

The McCracken County Disaster and Emergency Services provided a generator that powered all of the stations and including the logging computers.

The GOTA station was operated by KG4VKB and KI4GKW and managed 102 contacts on their first operating experience.

As usual, everyone had a good time operating and hopefully our score will be respectable. Thanks to everyone that helped make it a success. -- KS4V
