2005 ARRL Field Day

07/15/2005 | N4AC The Forsyth County Georgia ARES Group (www.forsythares.org) had a fun and productive field day, with great participation by our members, visitors from the community and participation by the Georgia Department of Homeland Security.

Forsyth County is one of the new suburbs north of Atlanta, and the city of Cumming has a great open fairground area they let us use for the contest. Dusty and Jim were our CW kings, Tom worked PSK-31 with several others. Randal (who ran our contest) and Dallas made satellite contacts.

Butch, Tom, Ed and others worked 20 meters, making excellent contacts across the US. Ralph led the efforts on 80 meters, and several of us took turns on 40 meters.

The biggest laughs of the day came at Saturday dinner, when Scott outdid himself AGAIN with the proud assistance of Laurie and Kay. Phil had cooked up ribs on the smoker all day in between contacts-- and they were out of theis world. Dreamy even.

But the highlight of the day was the Forsyth Amateur Radio Technical Society (F.A.R.T.S.), W4FRT, who sent representation to dinner by way of Phil and Jerry, who wore their tuxes with their shorts! (Or as we say down here in Georgia, "Them boys ain't right.")

It was a warm sunny day on Saturday through dinner and mid-evening-- thank goodness for the shade we had rigged. But around 10:30 PM Saturday a light rain began and continued off and on through the contest on Sunday. Some of the rain got quite heavy at times.

All in all, a fun and productive field day. More photos and a few videos are on our group's web site, www.forsythares.org. Thanks and 73's! It was a fun contest.
