2005 ARRL Field Day

07/14/2005 | W9OG The weather was hot and so was the contesting! We had a great location - The Buffalo Trace Council BSA let us use the shelter at their brand new site. This is a busy weekend in Evansville with hydroplane racing, an air show, Mike Harvey's Supergold and Field Day all going on at the same time. We had a total of 33 participants, not bad for a club with 60 members.
We also tried out a portable communications trailer that had been donated to the club. There are pictures of the ingenious method that one of the members came up with for using surplus fiberglass tent poles to set up an inverted-vee antenna in a jiffy. Five unlicensed visitors were interested enough to sit behind the mike with a control operator and make a few contacts. Maybe by next year they'll be licensed hams. We had visits from an elected official (Suzanne Crouch) and a rep from a served agency (AdamGroupe). Hopefully no one starved, and we had an awesome fireworks display to watch just down the hill on Saturday night. -- N9QVQ
