2005 ARRL Field Day

07/13/2005 | KY4KY Well Murphy started earlier than normal this year. Our cook was called away to a reunion and somehow the word didn't get to the right ears and we had to fast food it this year. The computer networking didn't want to network. Our main CW ops were not able to be with us this year due to family responsibilities. DID THAT STOP US!!!! Of course not. Even though we were down this year from the past our youth participation was up. There were 10 ops under the age of 14 (6 licensed). The Red Cross ECRV was again a key player in our operation, providing our generator power and a 50 ft mast with yagi.

Lunch was provided by the Colonel.... Colonel Sanders and KFC that is. The rest of the buffet was our usual amazing fare. No wonder all these old guys are fat.... their wives are amazing cooks. Once we got all of Murphy's tangling untangled the operation ran smoothly. We were visited by our state representative Mary Harper (R-Bullitt Co). She knew ham radios value having dealt personally with the 1996 tornado. This is a first for the Bullitt Club. We have drawn many a local elected official but this is the first time a state rep visited our site. Our affiliation with the Red Cross has grown stronger and the interaction between agencies is almost seamless. Many thanks to the kids that spent their weekend playing radio and hanging out with the old guys.

Other than the old control op, our operators between 1AM and 6AM local time were under the age of 14. There is hope for ham radio. TRAIN YOUR REPLACEMENT. Invite the neighbor kid or the local scout troop to experience your world of ham radio. AND do it with a smile

See you next year on Field Day from KY4KY -- KC4WQ
