2005 ARRL Field Day

07/11/2005 | WA9STI To get to my operating position on a 2800' peak in the Santa Susana Mountains above the San Fernando Valley in the Los Angeles Section, I loaded my gear and antennas in a backpack. It took almost an hour to walk to the top. I ran QRP with a Yaesu FT-817 and a Buddipole rotatable dipole. My goal was 100 contacts. Things were slow to start with only 11 contacts during the first 2 hours on 20 and 40 meter phone. But 15 meters opened up at 2300Z and I really started making up fast. With another 33 contacts on 2 meter SSB via a 3 element beam, I finished with 108 QSOs. With the sun setting and a chill in the air, I packed up and started off the mountain in darkness via flashlight. Getting up and back down was part of the fun! de Scott -- WA9STI
