OM and YL I want to share an idea for training CW ops that was used by the Salem, OR hams this year. While I was attending the NW ARRL convention in Seaside this year my friend Dan WA7ABU invited me to join their group. How welcome they made this guest op a tip of the hat to you all ! Here is what I thought worked so good. A experienced CW operator was teamed with a less experienced op but the experienced ham logged the QSO on the computer with the screen in easy view of the less experenced op who had complete control of the radio and key. He tuned, called, sent the report and confirmed the received report. This seemed to work much better than the novice logging. Everyone that did it this hands on method learned more. Some of the stations send pretty fast and it has a tendency to make the new op shy away from the faster sending stations. With simple hand guestures the experienced op could help the jr op zero beat and time his calls and the jr op can by just looking at the logging screen see how he was doing copying the call and report. More people were trying their hand at CW this year.Perhaps this is how you already do it but is was new to me. 73 Roger -- K7NTW
