2005 ARRL Field Day

07/08/2005 | NC4GC Gaston County ARES in conjunction with the Gastonia Amateur Radio Club (GAARC) conducted Field Day 2005 on the campus of the Gastonia College. We had two displays (a 105 foot ladder truck provided by the Agricultural Center Volunteer Fire Department, then a smoke house provided by the Belmont Fire Department).

We were very happy to make all of the bonus points available through the new youth category, meeting one of our goals of making the hobby more appealing to America's youth. Refreshments were offered to all visitors, as was an opportunity to Get On The Air. While we only made approximately 350 QSOs, we did make HAM Radio and ARES more known to the local community, we practiced several important aspects of setup for emergency communications, enjoyed some fantastic fellowship with other HAMS, and managed to have fun throughout the entire experience.
