2005 ARRL Field Day

07/05/2005 | K1XI Field Day 2005 Youth Operator

The Kennebec ARES team held Field Day in Kents Hill, Maine again this year. We had our normal down times and some challenges but the highlight was the little nine year old who, with her Mom, came upon our signs off the main road to see what field day was all about. Her sister and Dad had traveled several hours North to Aroostook County to participate in Field Day up there, not knowing that there was one in the next town over.
When Julieanna and her mother showed up just before the end of Field Day to see what it was all about, Julieanna was asked if she would like to make a few contacts. With her eyes wide open and a big smile she dug right in and with little coaching made four super contacts to end the Field Day for our group. She made the day for us and this is what Field Day is all about. We hope that she will be our next ham and join us again in the future.
Julieanna's grandfather is Wilburn "Scottie" Scott of Crouseville, Maine (WA1YNZ). He is an
ARRL Assistant Section Manager. Her grandmother is also a ham but I don't have her call. Julieanna's father is Roger Scott (KA1HUX) of Mt. Vernon, Maine and her 12 year old sister is Alexis Scott (KB1MHG).

Thanks to all who made our Field Day a great event again this year!

I had to send this in after 40 years of doing field day events I have never had this happen before. She was one super person and the stations that she made contact with took the time and effort to pass the information nice and slow for her to get. My hat goes off to the super people on the other end also that made the day of a sweet little girl and to all of our members that worked so hard on field day. This is what it is all about our youth !! -- K1PIG
