2005 ARRL Field Day

06/29/2005 | N4MAP The South Fulton ARES group came together for its fourth annual Field Day attempt at beautiful Cochran Mill Park southwest of Atlanta, Georgia. We operated in the 3A category with two SSB stations and one CW station. Once again we proved that we can brave the rain, heat, humidity and bugs while having a great time enjoying Amateur Radio and the company of our friends.

We used all wire antennas, strung up in the plentiful trees lining the field. A generator was used until about midnight, then we completed the rest of the contest on battery. We ended up with almost 900 contacts, and everyone was pleased with our effort.

A highlight of the event was the opportunity to introduce some of our members and friends to HF for the first time. We managed to keep things operating for most of the 24 hours, and have already vowed to return next year for another attempt. -- N4MAP
