2005 ARRL Field Day

06/28/2005 | K9DI Field Day 2005: What a BLAST!!!! Tom KF9HL and I ran 2D IL again this year.
We each used our TS520's. We used antennas made from two 100 foot extension cords plugged together and one end lopped off to allow us to us to strip the wire and then hook the bare wire to a tuner. Tom used the same antenna as last year and I used one that we put up just for Field Day 2005. Since my family has switched from a minivan to a small sedan the vertical that was put to use last year had to stay home.
We got a little more than a hundred contacts. There are 20 of them that wouldn't have gotten in the log without the help of our "secret weapon" for bustin' pileups. My daughter Rebecca. Most of her Q's were on 40M SSB with me on Saturday evening, but the one that stands out the most, happened Sunday Morning with Tom observing. She busted a 20M pile-up with one call, just one call! I have a feeling there'll be another ham in the Scace family real soon now.
The real workhorse band this year was 40M SSB with over 60 Q's there. Our next runner up was 20M. Thank you Tom for making the self-sacrifice of going up on 20M for us.
We all pitched in to provide delicious meals over the entire weekend. From Italian Beef, to Honey-glazed porkchops, to hamburgers to Taco salads the meat dishes covered a wide range. We also enjoyed cole slaw and potatoe salad. Fun was had by all, including the two working dog guides that got to play with each other when not working.
Vy 73 es See you next year!!
