This years field day centered on introducing the Boy Scouts to Amateur radio and helping them get their Radio Communications Merit Badge. This was accomplished by presenting the Scouts with a Power Point presentation which covered everything from electronic components such as capacitor, resistors, tubes, etc. The presentation also included information on the atmosphere regions, propagation, line of site propagation and general amateur knowledge pertaining to a technician level license. Ron AG1P gave the presentation, answered questions and signed off on their merit badge forms. Then all of the Scouts had an opportunity to try some HF contacts on Field Day.

Field Day could not have been better, simple set ups, quality eyeball QSOs, plenty of food and soda and lots of interest by the Boy Scouts! In fact, the troops that were not able to attend because of conflicting schedules want us to do another session; perhaps a special event is in order! Many of the Scouts expressed interest in furthering their knowledge and inquired about obtaining their Technician licenses.

It is our groups mission to enjoy the hobby, promote it well and put Amateur Radio in public view to enjoy and spark interest. Not to mention working public service events! With such a good time had by all I dont think we can wait another year to introduce such a wonderful hobby as Amateur Radio to the public and the scouts. Dont be surprised to hear us again soon along with the Boy Scouts of America!
