2003 ARRL Field Day

07/10/2003 | W7V The gang at the Elko Amateur Radio Club set up Field Day this year on property belonging to the airport. This site is also adjacent to the Elko County Interagency Dispatch Center (Sheriff, police, fire, ambulance and Highway Patrol).

10 and 15 meters were a no show so all of the time was spent on 75-20 with the SSB rig and 40-20 on the CW rig.

Bill, KD7CWA, debuted his mobile, "Green Bean", operations center and all of the folks at FD really appreciated the air conditioning.

Most surprising was being able to operate the 100 watt FT-847 CW position using solar/battery power for all but the first 2 hours.

This was also the premire event where we got our first chance to use the newly acquired A4S and the "Great Punkin" which is a portable light plant adapted to a 25kw generator and 35' self powered mast.

Thanks to all the club members who came to FD and helped out. -- W7GK
