2003 ARRL Field Day
My third FD in a row on QRP CW--this yr wid my new FT-817 es
Bencher ST2 paddle. Ants: Hustler 4BTV Vert(gnd mtd wid 4 radials due to trip hazard) fer all 20/40m. contacts, es 80 m. inv vee 32'center/15' ends; MFJ941E tuner; AC/Delco Voyager Marine/RV battery which pwrd my entire opn on one charge. I didn't make as mni contacts this yr due to a family reunion which drew people from all over US es Canada! QTH was a private campgrnd in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Altho band condx were vy poor, I eeked out 157 QSO's, with 59 on 80m., 78 on 40m., and 20 on 20m. 10 and 15 were totally dead and 20 wasn't much btr fer QRP op! Total op. time: jest ovr 10 hrs. A severe T-storm disrupted my entire opn at 1847Z on Jun 28. The wind knocked over the vertical (no damage), but I
had to wait until the storm ended to re-set up! Abt 15 miles
n. of my QTH, tt same storm overturned a car! Mosquitoes
were relentless, and if I cud hv put all the lightning bugs
in a jar, they wud hv powered the rig. Hmmmm...btr not give away a secret! Special TNX to mni stns who were "A-1 ops" to get my exchange, which sometimes had to be rptd mni times b4 I hrd a "QSL." A lot of ops took the time to sa TU (thank you), 73 or GL (good luck). Now tt's true FD spirit! The only station I wkd tt posted on the soapbox so far was N2MO. I wkd u on 40m...and nw wonder if it
was a solar QSO, in tt it wuz at 1332Z!! Tnx agn to all. Gld to hr so mni CW stns out there! CU next yr....hpefully frm a btr QTH es wid more op time available! AR 73, Ken de WA8REI SK dit dit. -- WA8REI
