Help, antenna selection support , equipment: yaesu 857D, 1030A power supply. For diplole : capable of max horizontal 70', 55' easy, need regional HF coverage for red cross from next door to ~ 500 miles, day / nite, max capable elevation of a diplole wire 23' AGL, at orientation N/S mag. . I'd suggest putting up a 40M dipole (wire running E/W) to evaluate what frequencies are actually usable--while you may not be able to transmit on bands other than 40 and 15--you can get a very good idea how well various bands will meet your needs. Alternately, you might want to find out and copy what other Red Cross stations are using--it really helps to know the strengths and weaknesses of the stations you are communicating with. On the HF bands, we are limited on receive by noise and by efficiency on transmit. Typically, you won't get anything more efficient than a half wave dipole at your maximum height. You might want to hold off transmitting on your new antenna regardless of what you put up--a receiving antenna can be useful for determining the validity of RFI complaints. Zack Lau W1VT |
