2 meter antenna

I would like to put a full wave 2 meter whip on my p/u but not sure how to match it to 50 ohms. Any help out there? |

A L network, a series inductor between the coax and the whip and a shunt capacitor from the whip to ground can be used to match the high impedance load efficiently. But, a long whip like that sends a lot of energy up into the sky at a relatively high radiation angles, so it is rarely useful for amateur purposes. Even for satellite work, a low angle vertical typically is more useful than one with high angles of radiation, as most of the time a satellite is near the horizon. While such an antenna might be useful for talking to someone on a tall mountain from a valley, in practice those paths tend to be so good that just about anything works--there is no need to tilt the pattern skyward.
