I have been messing around with my first radio for about a year now.
the world famous BeoFeng UV5R. Looking to upgrade and wow, so much to choose from. Live in a bit of rural area so more power needed. Not ready for full shack equipment but have built a J-pole with some success. Still a tech license but began study for General. So any suggestions for 2nd purchase of radio would be appreciated.
I am a very non-techy old home builder so looking for ease of programming. Thanks ahead of time!!!!!

A mobile radio is the best way to get more power. The receivers are better and less likely to be interfered with when connected to a good antenna. Handhelds may overload when connected to good antennas.
A rural area is no guarantee that there won't be nearby transmitters. There may be one strong cell phone transmitter to serve a large area that may be worse than the low power ones uses in urban areas.
