I need to replace the x-Hat on the R-7 I inherited. Each section of the X-Hat is comprised of two 1/16" rods joined at the middle with a 1/4" coupling. Is there any problem with substituting same total length 1/4" rods? |

Tapering does two things. It reduces the wind load. It also makes the effective electrical length slightly longer. Zak W1VT ARRL Senior Lab Engineer |

Thanks for the input. I noticed I described the existing X-Hat rods as 1/16". I meant to say 3/16". Anyways, I guess I'll experiment with the 1/4" rod - I have not been able to find the VF of the rod to approximate t's electric length. Oh well, I'm never too old to learn new things. |
