I have a Quantum battery pack from the 1990s. The original cells are pretty useless at this point. I tried to contact Quantum about getting it repacked, but it rather looks like they have gone out of business. Does anyone know of a reputable source for getting the batteries replaced in one of these? I opened it up for a look, and it is beyond my capabilities to do it myself. It was an awesome, long lasting battery pack for use with a VHF handheld, especially for events and emergency communications needs. I'd love to be able to have mine in service again. Thanks in advance for any assistance. 73. |

If it is opened up so you can easily inspect the battery I would suggest taking it to a local "battery store" to see if they have a replacement battery. Battery technology has improved in the last 30 years so it may be time to retire it in favor of something new. But, new batteries require special chargers. You can't just put in a new battery technology and use an old charger. Zak W1VT ARRL Senior Lab Engineer |
