Hi everyone, I am using an FT-450 (older version) to work on my AM technique while my Viking Valiant-I and Hallicrafters SX-100 are recapped and cleaned. I have noticed a strange phenomena. When I transmit on AM for the first time during a session - the carrier takes almost a full minute of "microphone on" to creep up to its 25 Watt max. After this "warm-up" all is fine. I must hold down the key for the carrier to build up. I have a watt meter inline which also confirms the carrier power must build up to 25 watts. This happens every time I restart the radio. Any ideas or comments on what is going on? 73, Jim
